On 7 August 2022, the Royal Thai Embassy organized tree planting activities for “Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother’s 90th Birthday Anniversary 12th August 2022” at Berakas Forest Recreation Park.

Her Excellency Miss Boosara Kanchanalai, Ambassador of Thailand and officers from the Embassy and Team Thailand welcomed Yang Mulia Hajah Tutiyati Binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary, Yang Mulia Noralinda binti Haji Ibrahim Director of Forestry Department and representatives from the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and Thai community in Brunei Darussalam to plant 100 tress namely Mata Pelanduk (Ardisia Elliptica), Baru-Baru (Hibiscus Tiliaceus) and Rulaut (Casuarina Equisetifolia) at Berakas Forest Recreation Park.  Tree planting activity was organized in the accordance with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great who was a champion at reforestation project due to his deep concern about massive deforestation in Thailand and put emphasize on the importance of developing sustainable water resources. Her Majesty saw that in order to achieve development in His Late Majesty’s royal projects in sustainable water resources, the forest element is needed to protect the water stream. Her Majesty once said “If His Majesty is considered as “Water,” I will be the “Forest” and the “Forest’ will always be supportive and loyal to “Water.” Many royal initiative projects were created in support of His Late Majesty such as the “Pa Rak Nam” (Forests Love Water) with the objectives of among others to restore deteriorating forest, to preserve the remaining part and to encourage the people to take care of their forest.

Besides, tree planting activity also organized as a continuation of our Embassy’s support to the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCPP) which was launched in July 2020.   The Embassy organised a tree planting event in July last year to support the “Green Protocol” initiatives under the BNCPP where we planted a symbolic 144 trees in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 75th and 69th Birthday Anniversaries respectively.  Increasing forest cover is identified as one of the 10 key strategies to transition Brunei Darussalam into a low carbon and climate-resilient nation as it seeks to increase the country’s carbon sink, which would positively impact the habitats, biodiversity, and ecosystems of the country. Through afforestation and reforestation programmes, the Brunei Government aimed to plant 500,000 new trees by 2035. It is an honour for the Embassy to further contribute to this cause and we look forward to continue our support to the Brunei Government’s Climate Action initiatives.
